Changes have now come natural

As of January 14th, I have lost 19 pounds.  My secret to successful weight loss is portion control, balancing work hours with mealtime, and regularity.  Portion control has naturally decreased my intake of food and drink.  The sensation of fullness is not always comforting.  A full stomach is satisfying but if you’re too full, then you become less productive and want to sleep.  Sleeping or no activity on a full stomach guarantees increase in pounds because nothing has been burned.  Portion control has changed my way of thinking and my appetite is satisfied with less.

My greatest change has been to balance work hours with my mealtime.  Everyone has demanding work hours but we seem to put work before our health.  Our health should always be number one, no exception.  I am a monitor technician at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames and I sit for 8 ½ hours.  This means for at least 8 hours I am not burning any calories, which is a perfect environment for weight gain.  Because I work from 3p – 11:30p, I have learned to choose the appropriate meals to control my weight.  By doing so, I make sure that I ALWAYS eat breakfast: a bowl of multigrain cheerios or fiber one cereal, a banana, and glass of water.  I make my lunch the heaviest meal because I am still moving around.  For supper, I choose the lighter dishes at work so I don’t feel slouchy while sitting.  I choose a soup or ½ portion of a main dish with a side, and skim milk.  With every meal, I add fruit: bananas and oranges.  This extreme change has increased my metabolism.  Because I start everyday with breakfast, I’m hungry by noon and starving by 5:30pm.  In the past, my coworkers knew I preferred to eat between 6pm or 6:30pm.  Now, I am starving by 5:00 pm.

The most important process of weight loss is regularity.  I know we see a lot of commercials endorsing products for this improvement but it is necessary.  Weight loss is not possible without proper regularity.  Our intake must be equal to our output.  If fat is not removed from our bodies naturally and regularly, then it will remain and turn to more fat.  You can eat right and exercise 24 hours a day but if you are not regular, your fat will continue to increase.  Proper eating habits, portion control, and exercise will always promote regularity.  If you exercise regularly and refuse to eat properly, then the only thing you are doing is replacing the fat you just burned.  And that equals NO progress.

These changes have now come natural because of my determination to be an example for my team.  I am the captain of the Heartthrobs A and B.  Team A has maintained number one in weight loss at MGMC for over two months AND was just named number one in Ames.  WOW!  I can’t believe it.  I am truly melting.  I am also participating in MGMC wellness program for the second year and am a member of Ames Racquet and Fitness.  These additions have also added to my success in weight loss.

No matter what life throws at you, your determination and motivation will always equal your success.  Most of all, none of this would have been possible for me without God.  God says, ‘Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.  But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.  Matthew 6:31-33.  Make yourselves right with God first, and then he will take care of the rest.  This is my testimony.
